AP U.S. History
The AP US History exam is a standardized test administered by the College Board, and it assesses students' knowledge of US history from pre-Columbian times to the present day. The exam consists of two main sections: multiple-choice questions and free-response questions.
The multiple-choice section consists of 55 questions, and students have 55 minutes to complete it. The questions cover a wide range of topics, including political, economic, social, and cultural history. Students must analyze primary and secondary sources, interpret data, and demonstrate their understanding of historical events and concepts.
The free-response section includes two questions: a Document-Based Question (DBQ) and a choice between two long essay questions. The DBQ requires students to analyze and interpret a set of primary and secondary sources and construct an argument based on the provided documents. The long essay question prompts students to develop an argument and support it with historical evidence.
The AP US History exam is scored on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest score. A score of 3 or higher is generally considered a passing score and may qualify students for college credit or advanced placement in history courses, depending on the policies of individual colleges and universities.
